Maladora¶
Maladora — "M" — is the person to whom the scholar Theodora addressed the diary and plaques she left in the Vex Caves. The party never met her; all that is known of her comes from Theodora's own writing across her twenty years of solitude there.
Theodora loved her deeply and left her behind when she came to the caves. From the diary, Maladora was bound to a "conservatorium" that would never have released her, and there was a father who needed looking after; Theodora wrote that Maladora had made the harder, more selfless choice while she herself took the path that was easier for her. The exact nature of the bond between them — sisters, lovers, or something else — the entries never say plainly, and the party could not settle it.
Whether Maladora is still living, Theodora did not know either. Her final entry closed with a message to her: "Maladora, wherever you are, whether you are still living... I have loved you all these years." A silver bracelet found in a tide pool nearby, engraved "To T, from M, always," appears to have been a keepsake from her.
