Captain Voss

Captain Voss is a short dwarven woman who captains the Brass Heron, a trading vessel of the late Dale Ashveil's canal-and-sea business, now the widow Maren Ashveil's. On Maren's word she carried the party from Aristonia to Saltmoor — about a week's crossing through the canal and out into the open sea — and dropped her fare once she understood who was financing the voyage. She has no love for Saltmoor and will not linger there, so she offered no return passage; travelers must arrange their own way back.

Setting the party ashore, she passed along the local wisdom she keeps by: stick to the Lamp Way, the middle tier of the city; do not go up into the Harrows; do not lie to Captain Mireval, who heads Saltmoor's pirate council; and always pay your tab before you leave.
