Bracken¶
Bracken is the elder of the druid circle that keeps the Saltwood, on the peninsula northeast of Saltmoor. He is weathered and grey, unhurried, and speaks plainly, more like an old fisherman than a mystic — though he commands the circle and its weather-craft. He reads people quickly, doesn't flatter, and is warm underneath once you have earned it.
The party met him when they crested the rise into the Saltwood to find the camp being torn apart by a maddened bull elk (see The Saltwood). Bracken was in the thick of it, bellowing at the beast to calm rather than trying to kill it — it was one of his own, and he would not have it put down. When the party helped gentle and rope the elk without killing it, he counted the debt paid.
He welcomed Flint at once as "one of ours," recognizing him as a fellow moon-circle druid. It was Bracken who named the sickness on the coast (see The World of Arcadia → The Coast Blight), told the party the old blue-moon story behind it, and entrusted Flint with the Moon Sickle his circle had kept for generations. He asked one thing in return: that the party carry the same restraint north and rid the coast of the blight at its source.
